2021 BILLFISH 15000
November 7th – 12th 2021
After four intense days of fishing at Sodwana, Team Snowy Owl finally snatched victory in the nail-biting finish of this closely contested event – as a mere point or two separated top positions on the leader board, right to the last day. Fishing furiously, many of the anglers (around 300) caught and released an amazing number of fish – causing a seesaw of emotions, as hopes were raised and dashed.
Congratulations to Skipper Riaan Odendaal, Rick Rovelli (boat owner) and their crew, who clinched the title with five Marlin - a Blue, a Black, an exciting double hook-up of two Striped Marlin and another Stripey – to land the winning 1470 points. Team Pulsator took second spot with 1115 points and Team Aphrodite placed third with 905 points.
Club Marine is proud to have been a sponsor in this event for 10 consecutive years!
Our Johannesburg team – Lelani, Erin and San Michelle – was there to support the anglers with last-minute cover, tips and information and to hand over lucky draw prizes.
Umlanga Skiboat Club Junior Summer Fishing Derby
November 6th 2021
Beyond excited, 63 enthusiastic USBC junior anglers leapt up at the crack of dawn to head off into a calm Durban Bay for a great day’s game and bottom fishing. 24 Skippers made
sure they had every fishable opportunity and there were several surprises among the varied and quality fish caught - including Rainbow Runners and Mussel Crackers.
No fish were brought to the scales, but all were measured, photographed, and released. An app converter would later convert the measurements to weights.
Club Marine sponsored prizes and Caryne, Megan and Janine attended the prize giving later that afternoon. Congrats to the winners and all who took part.

September 24th – 25th 2021
Tigerfishing is trending and many more anglers are rising to the challenge of catching these ferocious predators! An enthusiastic crowd recently descended on Pongolapoort Dam for
this popular Bonanza run by Sodwana Hengel Klub.
Around 350 anglers gave it their all in steamy hot weather, but fish were scarce due to spawning and many didn’t catch a thing all weekend. Kudos to Kobus Meyer whose 710mm fish
took top spot overall, Jonathon de Vos was second with a fish of 640 mm and Johan van Heerden in third place with a measurement of 600mm!
Club Marine sponsored prizes for the first time and Leslie Bilgnaut won the cooler box.
